Create NZB from incomplete parts
« on: March 21, 2010, 12:47:42 PM »
Hi!

Sometimes when downloading from my news server, some parts are defective or incomplete. So I need to re-download just these defective parts - most of the time, the second download will be fine or I'll try another server. However, it's exhausting to select only the defective parts from a collection, or select the whole collection and then delete the already downloaded intact parts from the download queue manually.

So it'd be great if Alt.Binz could automatically save a NZB file containing all the defective parts of a collection (e.g. after downloading the last part of a collection)! This way I could easily re-import this NZB and try downloading the defective parts again or from another server. This would also make it possible to try over and over again with just the parts that are defective (which would be less every time I try).

I'm sure many people would appreciate this feature!

Regards!

Defective or missing?

Defective -> change usenet provider
Missing -> you have settings for that under setup->connection

I think defective, because immediately re-downloading will produce a correct file most of the time. Maybe the news provider has some temporary problems sometimes, or it's the internet connection, or my PC, etc. In any case it'd be great if Alt.Binz would simply create a NZB for all the defectively downloaded (or decoded) files so that I can try downloading them again without any hassle.

Thanks!

Sorry, this is just unreasonable request.
Internet connection->no chance.
Your PC -> fix it
Usenet provider ->change it

May I just add that no professional user would tolerate broken PC or defective provider  ;)

Why is that unreasonable? My news provider is usually very reliable, fast and inexpensive. Maybe once or twice a month there is some server problem and downloads are defective (or incomplete although they should be complete on the server). So why should I change the provider and spend significantly more money? I simply re-download the files that are broken and that's it. That's why it would be practical if Alt.Binz would help here by simply creating an NZB from the defective files only. Alt.Binz knows which files are affected after decoding them, so it'd save a lot of time and effort for the user if an NZB with the files to re-download would be created.

Of course, in a perfect world this should not be necessary, but the world is not perfect...

And no, I do not tolerate a broken PC, of course. But yes, I tolerate some occasional flaws of my news provider, because generally it is great! It's a pity that you don't tolerate the needs of other people...

OK, everything was going fine until the last sentence, what a pity, I guess you couldn't stop yourself.  There are already functions for retrying parts that suits the needs of 99.9% of users.  Your needs are difficult to take seriously when you act like an idiot.

Just listen to yourself. Needs of other people. You mean you, you and you. I suggest you find some other place that will tolerate your needs.
