Subfolders based on groups
« on: March 01, 2007, 08:16:24 PM »
Hi,

Could alt.binz have an option to create subfolders to downloads based on the newsgroup you downloaded from? Would make the switch from Newsleecher totally painless. Now it messes up my folder hierarchy. It probably isn't that big of a work and it gives you nice little touch of freedom.

Thanks.

I second that.

e.g. if you download multiple mp3 archives
- a.b.mp3.complete.cds
- a.b.mp3.soundtracks
= better overview.

I'd also like this option available.
I think it would need some minor magic done though because some times the imported NZBs have files across groups
e.g: nzb imported via newzleech for bin-req/abmm posts which always crosspost a.b.tv and a.b.multimedia
now if you export those nzbs out of alt.binz (like I do) and import them on a different PC which (in my case) uses Newsleecher, they end up messed up cause the files marked as belonging to abmm go under /a.b.mm/NZBNAME/* and the ones belonging to abtv go in /a.b.tv/NZBNAME/*... so in order to avoid this same bug ;) you'd probably wanna check the first file on the nzb and use it's group location as a save folder for the rest of the files in the nzb, regardless of where they appear to reside at.

I would also very much like this feature. In fact it is the only feature missing for moi. Everything else is perfect! Especially the way DM8Mydog suggests it!

Ex: /Group_Name/NZB_Name/Files

Thanks for your great efforts thus far rdl!

If I'm counting right I'd like to eighth this request.  It might seem a very small and simple request, but I would appreciate it a GREAT deal.

No bad idea at all.
One little thing to add to this option (or should it be in a seperate thread?):
I'd like an option to autocreate a subfolder name taken from the Description field.

...but also would be great to specify path, not JUST use groupname. Forinstance to be able to configure both a.b.mm and a.b.tv to go in \TV\ ... which fixes the problem of split directories most the time (since i generally only download tv :)

EDIT: actually, it might be nice if you could regex (or blob) them as well. I'm sure I could make that work perfectly.

just configure Alt.Binz for your non-tv downloads and use rss for tv (http://tvbinz.net/index.php?view=help)

you can set specific download paths for each filter. see description: https://www.altbinz.net/wiki/Using_RSS_Feeds_and_Filters

I have done that, but it does not help manual downloads; I do a lot of bulk watching. Also, that does not help other types of downloads that are not easily chosen in advance.

I love the way AltBinz does it now. If there will be the option to use the newsgroup name, please make it only an extra option!
