Network connection freezes/collapses after a few hours
« on: May 25, 2008, 04:01:16 PM »
Hello,

I'am using AltBinz for quite a while now and i must say i really love the programm. Since one week i'am the owner of a new computer. Dell inspiron 530 with Q9450 4GBRAM 1TB HDD config. It shipps with Vista and i installed SP1 and all the latest updates.

Since one week i'am having troubles with the configuration when downloading from newsgroups. It starts of fine downloading @ 14 Mbits, but after aprox 4 hours of downloading (+-16 GB) the connection with the newsserver slows down rather fast till 0Kb, then it comes up to a few hundred KB and then it falls off completely, disabeling all network traffic on my computer.

I tried several option when i reach this state:
When i try to start a windows program it says "out of system resources", after that the whole system freezes and needs a hard reset.

When i try to shut down it doesn't shutdown, the monitor goes black (only showing the mouse arrow) alsno needing a hard reset after that.

When restarting the network adapter doesnt activate and after 1 minute or so a BSOD appears stating "multiple IRP complete request ..". Sometimes this happens twice. After that the machine is ready for use again. ??? ???

So far for the sympoms. Now for the configuration:

Network adapter Intel(R) 82562V-2 10/100 (running @ full duplex mode)
Always running: Kaspersky 7.01.325
Zonealarm PRO VISTA trial version
VISTA SP1 (the problem was already there before installing SP1)

I have been trying several options last week:

@ first i thougt it was the sleeping mode and/or the screensaver that caused the problem. Turned off sleeping mode & screen saver. Problem still the same.

Started of with version 0.28.0 en graded down to 0.27.2. Problem still the same.
Shutting down zonealarm and running on windows firewall. Problem still the same.
Raised the number of receive buffers on the Intel(R) 82562V-2 10/100 from 256 to 296: Result ADSL Modem needs a reset.
Lowered the number of receive buffers on the Intel(R) 82562V-2 10/100 from 256 to 216. Problem still the same
Granted administrator rights. Problem still the same.
Running in XPSP2 compatibility mode. Problem still the same.
Not downloading for one day. Network adapter kept running and internet was accesible after 24 hours.
To eliminate the ADSL modem as a cause of the problems i downloaded from my other computer running XPSP2 and AltBinz. This configuration experienced no problems after 8 hours of running. So the adsl modem eliminated as source of the problems.

This morning i installed sabnzbdplus 3.4. and started a downloadrun using this app. Although i cannot definitively state that this solved the problem it is still running without problems for 7 hours now @ 14Mbps.

I would like to keep using Alt.binZ though. Anyone out there who's known with similar problems or that can help me figure out what to do?

thx,
Subzero

Well, sometimes when i'm downloading whith alt.binz i have the same problem. I thought it was the ISP, but now you mention this... All the time I had it Alt.Binz was downloading. The speed went to 0kb/s, after like 10 seconds the download restarted and went to normal speed. Have had this a few times ...

@PablorIndt

In my situation it comes back for only 5 to 10 seconds. After that all network traffic (OR the adapter) is down / disabeled and i need a hard reset.

Grtz,
Subzero

OK, here it's a bit different. I don't need a reset of anything, just wait 5 - 10 sec and everything is fine again. Sometimes it come's back again every 10 minutes.

Other adapter, but using Vista x86 without service pack 1 ;) I have to say that the problem occurs sometimes, but I didn't notice last 2 weeks ;)

Fixed the error.

Problem was not AltBinz but Vista Zonealarm Pro trial.
After completely uninstalling the problem with altbinz was fixed.

Case closed  :)
