Better way to check user validity
« on: April 23, 2011, 01:02:11 AM »
I realize that I could not use the program when the site is down because every time the program will try to log in in order to be working. It's OK if the site is good. Just today I cannot use it because AltBinz is down. Being a paid member and support the software I really hope there's a better way to check the validity of the user than relying on the site. Thanks.

Well, I'm not really sure what you mean by "paid member", everyone here is a Contributor to the Alt.Binz project.

What happened today was a very unusual set of circumstances connected with a failure at the hosting company that also affected the backup auth server.  Everyone's DNS setup is different, unfortunately, so for some it was just a few hours and for others longer. Help was avaiable via the IRC channel all day: #alt.binz @ EFNet.

If you were around in the pre-0.28.5 days, you'll understand why this method was implemented, and why it has been 100% successful in stopping those earlier problems. If you have constructive proposals to make, then by all means do. Simply broadcasting displeasure will just get the thread closed.
