Title: Losing Queue After Upgrading a new version
Post by: gerkula on November 03, 2007, 01:02:06 am
I was using v.0.25.0 and upgraded to v.0.26.5 by donating recently. Before doing so, as a safe guard I copied all of my queue in a big nzb file, in case if I lost them. As I expected, all of the queue was lost and with relief I uploaded the big nzb to restore all of my queue; however, it was not organized as it was before and was a mess to deal with... Is there a way to restore the queue in order of specific files and / or folders while upgrading, as it seems, every upgrade erases the queue definitely (of course there is a work around; to create individual nzb's for each specific download, but it will be time consuming, and I am asking for an easy solution).

i had the same problem before when i realized:
you need to drop the new exe into the alt.binz install folder to replace the old one. if you want save the od exe somewhere else. this way you will keep your queue and also all your personal settings

I dropped and replaced the old exe file with the new one in the alt.binz folder; although my settings were kept, all of my queue was lost?

Well, that shouldn't be happening, and indeed hasn't happened to me once with any upgrade so far.  As you can imagine, if this was a common experience the forum would be full of such reports.  But in case there's something buggy on your system, the file you need to back up is altbinz/misc/queue.abz.  If you lose your queue for whatever reason, close Alt.binz and restore that file, then restart.

Is there any way I could get the queue file? Loosing the queue should never happen.

Thanks for the response; as I said before the queue was lost (so should the original queue file) and I do not think that I can retrieve it anyway (I can try a system restore; which I would not do for this purpose). I will try to back it up manually on the next upgrade to another directory; however it will be practical to have an option to take care of it within the program, like saving the queue and re-loading it, without screwing the order, etc.

Sorry, I misunderstood this "safe guard I copied all of my queue in a big nzb file"

As I said, it should always load old queue without any problem. BUT if you want to be safe, before upgrading, always make a copy of your misc folder. All settings including queue are there.
