Hi, I'm new to Usenet and I've signed up with Easynews..
I'm getting good downloads from NZB files that are no less than a week (or 12 days give or take) old...but yesterday I was able to download a NZB file which was from late Jan.
I like downloading with alt.binz because I can put 15-20 connections, rather than downloading via Firefox...
Is there a problem that I can only download new, recent nzb files, even nzb files from Feburary are a problem...
Thanks alot.

Hello, thanks for the quick post - it doesn't make sense, if I downloaded a NZB from end of Jan, but now today - I can only get this weeks nzb files, how does that work out?
Also Easynews has a retention for 165 days.... what is the problem then?
I have let Alt.Binz through my firewall, I've tested the files with another program...and I've played about with the server settings on Alt.Binz...
???
EDIT: I tried the same NZB from yesterday - and it didn't work.

Easynews http retention is not the same as easynews nntp retention.

Thank you, I understand - however, that still leaves me puzzled :(
For example, I downloaded a tv episode yesterday, which was posted in 24 Jan, (14 March DL'ed) - that obviously isn't 14 days...
So what's going on.
Appreciete the help, thanks 8) :-*
EDIT: On Easynews you can create your own NZB files, I've done this today with older files - same problem, I take it that comes under the retention (14 days) ?

These are all questions for Easynews really. Their current problems are well-known, so we can only guess what's happening at their end. Complain about it to this guy:

Better yet, switch to Astraweb $11 p/m for unlimited downloads, 20 connections, SSL, 210 days retention growing to 365:

Thank you guys, you're a star - I'll wait till my 30 days with Easynews is over, I quite like the Global search system they have going on...
I've asked them the questions I've asked here, I'll report back 8)
What is the retention for NNTP for Astraweb?
-
As I said above, 210 days growing to 365. Astraweb is NNTP only. Don't wait too long, it's a limited offer ...

Baww thanks!
I changed the address of easynews to a EU server (which isn't listed on the site btw!) seems to be working fine now...
This may be a stupid question, again - a newbie - but does Astraweb have a Global Search like EasyNews? I've gotten quite used to EasyNews server.

No, and why would you need one when you have 6 free Alt.Binz integrated search engines and RSS to boot? :P
Of course, you need the last version for all of those to work, the Donate button is your friend. ;)

I will keep this in mind! I was wondering why the search didnt work ;D
Let my Easynews run out, and if I head to Astraweb, I will def. donate, and if not - I'll donate by the end of the month, I'll come back and let you know ;)
(Its just EasyNews is good for browsing...unless you can do that in Alt. as well! )

beta.binaries.nl tab still works in 0.25.0, I think, if you want a taster. And yes, there are Browse buttons for Newzleech, Binsearch and others - good for flicking through groups.
You can always just use the sites, though. Here's the list of what works and what doesn't in 0.25.0, plus site links:

Don't forgoet RSS! It rocks.
:)

Eek! My head....*clutches* It's a lot to take in ;D
What is so special about RSS?
If I donate and get the full version of Alt.Binz, does that mean I can download more than one file at a time? It seems so I can only download one file at a time :(
-
Alt.Binz will always max out your available bandwidth. <---- think about this sentence for a few minutes, have a beer or two while you're doing that
Now you should understand why it makes no difference - and in fact is better - that Alt.Binz only downloads one file at a time. Or you could just search the forum for the other threads about this ... ;)
