Title: Downloads stop at 97% - 99% per part, NZB shows 100 complete???

So, I'm donwloading an NZB of a film with - say - 45 parts to it.. Out of these all but 6 download 100% and decode. However, the 6 I'mleft with are sitting at 97%, 98%, 99%, 100% but not decoding.

Can these be forced to end so I can repair them with PAR2s or is there something I'm missing?

I'm pretty new to this Usenet deal so, forgive my idiocy....

plz look at setup-> connections. there is a field called retry count maybe this is set to more then 0.

If some parts of a file are missing alt.binz will wait that "delay bewteen retries" to see if that part is available on your server. If both is set to high it will take very long.

simply set "retry count" to 0. You will end up with some incomplete files but they can be repaired with par2 files.
Alt.binz will repair them autom. if the correctly. Plz read wiki: http://www.altbinz.com/wiki/index.php/Quick_Start_Guide

thanks for the quick response.. strangely, retry count is set to 0.. any other options??

In that case plz post your log, so we can look at it what could be responsible.

did you try to restart alt.binz?

and how many download threads (connections to your server) do you use?

i'm using 20 conections through giganews on SSL

client .25 on Vista

Currently about 12 of the files are sitting at 100% or 99% and not completing or decoding

for a DVD i'm downloading, i gave up on the film...

can you plz post your settings from your server in alt.binz or make a screenshot and post it.

double click on it and post it here (without username and password of course)

status code:0 means something went wrong with your connection to giganews.
I don't know what went wrong.
You can try to play with "article cmd" and "select group" in your server setup, but i donät think that will help.

Maybe someone has an idea, what went wrong.

I do have a lot of files in my Temp directory under

C:\User\AppData\Alt.Binz\temp

That's where stuff gets stored isn't it?

Can I re-build the files from in here?

First we need to establish what your problem is.  Check your log: is Alt.Binz waiting to retry the article, or has decoding just failed completely?  What happens when you restart Alt.Binz?

since 0.28.0 ive been having similar problems.. certain files (usually the last part of a rar set) sticks at 97%-98%
altbins carries on downloading the next nzb/set while the last parts of the first nzb remains stuck... eventually if left long enough they do complete.. its only happened to me 3 or 4 times so havnt thought to much about it..

as a test i have also redownloaded the same nzb/set and they completed immediatley without error..odd

it may just be some error with the usenetserver provider and coincidence it started happening with .28

newserver - usenetserver (20 connections SSL) my retry count is set at 0
other settings -
decoder thread priority - lower
par2/unrar thread priority - lower
download thread priority - normal

memory cache - 300mb
remove articles cache - 15mins

So, what does your Log report about those artlcles?  The problems with UNS have been legion in recent months ... although it could just be that the decoding thread for that NZB is taking a breather for a while, given that you've lowered its priority.

Any solution to this? This is driving me crazy. Some parts will stop downloading and just sit at 97%-99%. This only seems to happen on large files. I have yet to download a file over 500mb that will download all the way. If I cant fix this, fine, but how can I retrieve these 99% complete parts so that I can just repair them?

My status code is also 0. I saw that means something is wrong with my connection to giganews. Something is wrong. It is not Alt.Binz.

There is no solution.

So, I gather from what you're saying that you've tried setting your retry count lower (even @ 0), and it still won't budge?

Other possibilities: toggle your connection off/on, exit Alt.Binz and restart, this usually shifts a stuck decoding thread.  There's also a manual yenc decoder:

There have been lots of improvements since 0.25.0 with the handling of decoding, but seeing as we don't really know what your problem is, I can't say for sure whether it's been fixed in later versions.  Certainly I've never had these issues with Giganews: I can only advise that you look into your antivirus, firewall, network connection, or anything else that might be interfering with Alt.Binz, etc.
