Freezing problems with all versions > 0.33.4 on Windows 7 x64
« on: February 25, 2011, 08:38:18 PM »
I've been using alt.binz with no problems for a long time, but am having problems with all the new releases this month - I have always simply updated alt.binz with the new .exe release and \lang folder without issues. But, since 0.35.1 and above, alt.binz freezes after briefly showing the forum logon page and stalls at a white screen. It eats a constant 25% CPU usage and does not budge, I have to kill the process to terminate it.

Reverting back to 0.33.4, I the problem goes away. I figured it may be an update problem, so I also tried clearing out the xx\AppData\Local\Alt.Binz folder, and starting the new version from a fresh unzip (leaving out my old settings/queue etc...). It loads first time and asks for my forum login details. After inputting these, it prompts to restart. Oddly, I can use the program and access all settings etc.. OK until I close it and restart again - then, the freezing problem comes back!

I am at a real loss here, although 0.33.4 is miles ahead of the competition I would like to check the neat improvements in your new versions. Can anyone suggest a possible fix for these annoying crashes?

MTIA.

Thanks for the quick reply rdl. I have experienced this problem with all the new versions greater than 0.33.4 (including your new 0.36.0 release)

But, it looks like I have solved the problem... after what was mentioned here:

My alt.binz folder has always resided on D:\, after moving it to my G:\ partition I now experience no crashing/freezing with the new versions. I am even able to retain all old settings using a "dirty" update of 0.33.4 to 0.33.6 - (overwriting the old .exe and lang folder without a "fresh" install). It is working fine so far.
