Title: Divide threads amongst jobs
Post by: Moning2 on March 16, 2011, 09:33:57 pm
My current usenet provider has speed problems with articles older than approximately 120 days. This causes them to download at no more than 50% of my maximum speed.

What I would like to do (for example) is have 4 threads of that provider doing job A which is 6 days old = max speed and have 4 threads do job B which is 400 days old = slow speed.
This will utilize my maximum download speed and make me happy in so many ways!  8)

I'm sure there arent many of you that have this problem but I would like Mr. Alt.Binz to consider implementing this.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: This just in: this would also require individual speed limits for the threads

There is no concept of 'jobs' in Alt.Binz as you describe - collections are downloaded sequentially not concurrently, for reasons of efficiency explained elsewhere in the forum. So what you're asking would require a big rewrite of Alt.Binz it seems ... compare that with the alternative, i.e. getting a better provider.

It's the only provider I know of that doesn't censor the groups I like to use.

In other words, bummer :)
