Download location checker
« on: February 02, 2008, 09:15:51 PM »
Shouldn't it be a good idea to make AltBinZ check whether the download location specified in the settings would be checked everytime the programs starts?

I am asking this because I have the issue that I have a laptop with very limited hard disk space. So for downloading I have a external harddrive attached to my laptop. The download location points to a directory on this external harddrive. Sometimes I forget to power on my external harddrive. Sadly enough AltBinZ will then fall back to the default download location without any notice. Should it be handy if AltBinZ checks this download location? Could also be handy for people with network (if they are offline) drives.

I've seen other programs that offer you the option of a set download location, or to be prompted for one each session, or each download.  So it's not unheard of.

I guess it depends on how cluttered it would make that options page, as I can't imagine it would be too hard to code.  Sometimes adding the option to the form is trickier than adding the option to the code.   ;)

There is nothing wrong with it falling back to default download location. Yeah, I could make it report to the log, but I still don't see how would that help you. In order to find out download location just press 'Download' button on the main toolbar.
Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to put alt.binz on external HD.

I think he means he'd like to see a notification if the default download path doesn't exist. This way, if say his external disk is on H:\ and default download dir is set to H:\, wouldn't it be possible if the program checks at startup whether or not the default download dir exists? And if it doesn't, get and error box, notifying about it.

I would say +1 for me, as it might make it just that little more convenient, but I would then like to see it as optional, not required, as I don't know how much it would effect the startup time of the program.

 ;D
