Exception Errors v0.21.2
« on: September 06, 2006, 09:12:22 PM »
I'm getting exception errors.  For example:

[9/6/2006 08:10:13] [Dec] Exception Cannot open file "D:\Program Files\altbinz\temp\29c1bb0558f8f4d11f412aa6ea26d2e2\part.38". The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

etc etc.  Occured multiple times during the download of "xor-standoff.101" from group a.b.tv.

I believe this is being caused by "needed files (unrar.dll & par2.exe) are now stored inside alt.binz executable", especially when dealing with very small article parts.  It seems it can't ydecode and par check the data at the same time becuz we're dealing with the same executable.

There is a remote possibility that my anti-virus software might be behind this, but,  the previous version (v0.21.1) did NOT have this error with same anti-virus program running.

See ya on IRC.

And on a sidenote:  There's a cosmetic problem with this version also.  Seem the "help tips" for the newly added UNRAR buttons say "Pause and Unpause" instead of "UNRAR and don't UNRAR".

I'm 99% sure it's antivirus program. Unrar.dll is used only when extracting and par2.exe is used only when repairing. Alt.binz checks files on it's own. Article is saved & file is released and then filename is given to decoder thread. Nothing in between which could hold the file except antivirus.

I'll leave 1% chance that is something post/yenc releated, but it should be reproducable then, so I'll download it & check.

Hints for rar/unrar button are already fixed.

I forgot to mention a major side effect accompaning these errors.  The program failed to combine the parts.  The raw data was left behind in the temp folder.  Fortunately I was able to harvest that data with a ydecoder pgm.

The AV program I was using is Kaspersky.  I also have Norton Internet Security on a diff installation of Windows on the same machine.  I'll try again with NIS running in the background.  Sometime within the next 15 hours or so I'll know if it's AV related or not.

I'll let ya know.

I had the same problem( ehm....similar) with Kaspersky, until i added altbinz to Trusted Zone, so that AV should not scan files and activity of the proggy.
Since then it's working with no problem.

Thanks for that.  I added it to two places (in Kaspersky Internet Security):

1. Application Integrity Control/Trusted Modules

and

2. Anti-Hacker/Rules for Applications (altbinz given full Internet access).

Each article downloaded are being "skipped" becuz of content type (which was the setting I had KAV set at during the errors encountered yesterday).

Thus far today, I've encountered no errors, either before or after adding altbinz to these areas.

Ok, I got more errors now.  It appears altbinz doesn't like it when I'm playing "The Sims 2" from Electronic Arts + KIS.
