Auto Repair - Vista 32 bit
« on: July 08, 2008, 08:40:18 AM »
Hi there, great program, very impressive! Got it recommended from a friend, however I am having a lot of trouble with repairing, most of what I download cannot be repaired.

I have tried to download all the par files and use Alt Binz for the repair and also QuickPar, but most of the time it cannot be done  :(

It is getting pretty annoying, and hope that someone has some idea of what I can do.

As the subject says I am using Windows Vista 32 bit, Alt Binz 0.25 (i believe that is the newest..?)

Thanks in advance!

First of all, you should read your Log (set it to Detailed) to see exactly what's going on when Alt.Binz is trying to repair stuff.  Second, make sure that you've followed the Quick Start guide in the Wiki and set everything up properly.  Third, if the files can't be repaired with Quickpar either, then you're out of luck - they're just bad posts, or have been corrupted in the download.  In tha latter case, check your PC for faults - memory, hard drive, networking.  Troubleshoot by switching off temporarily everything that might interfere with your download - firewall, antivirus, etc.

0.28.1 is the latest version, but is only avaiiable to Contributors (click the Donate button and read).  Version history:

Thanks a lot for your reply, much appreciated.

Something must be wrong as most downloads fail, guess I have an error somewhere on the PC, not that I have noticed anything elewhere.

The posts I download have been fairly new and complete post (newzbin.com), most of them not older than 10 days.

I will try to take a look at the wiki again and start over, thanks a lot!

Start with your Log and work from there (it really is the font of all wisdom ;)).

For other Vista troubleshooting, make sure that Alt.Binz actually has write access to all of the necessary folders - temp, download, etc.  Run Alt.Binz as Admin, or install it outside of Program Files if you're having persistent UAC problems.  Really there are lots of things at your end that could be the source of the problem ... so you'll need to troubleshoot a bit if you want more specific advice.

What Usenetprovider do you use? It could be a problem if you use a free Provider or the newsserver from your ISP. Do you have the same problem with other newsreaders?
