« on: February 11, 2007, 11:04:52 AM »
Because we have a lot of questions , i wanted to set up a help guide on the website for things like :  setting up a server , setting up par2+rar.

And i would like to have your help ( i'm lazy :D ) the help guide will be put up on the website , you'll be credited for your work and we would be thankfull.

If we have a good help guide we might have less ppl that need help :)

So if you have any ideas or guides ready you can pm me with the details here or on IRC

Added a few things, and reformatted to make it easier to read.  :)

Also, how's this for a possible table of contents for a fuller guide that everyone could contribute to (maybe as a wiki):

Damm Hecks,

You just stole my idea ! or is it we are at the same wavelength

I would at the following:
- overview,  take a snapshot and pointing with arrows and a small description
- abbreviation and explanation. It took me a while before I knew what rootnode meant.
- skin selection

I want to help you guys as well :!:
I propose to use a helpgenerator like helpndoc and generate some html helpfiles. We can divide these html over several men.  8)

Tell me what you think of it...

That sounds like an excellent idea to me.  W'e d need RDL's approval on help files, I would think, if these are to be included in the download.  Is that what you mean?  Otherwise, a wiki would be nice - then we could update it regularly as each new version is released.  But Sc0tTy would need to set that up on the server for us ...

Look forward to reading your overview!  :)

I never heard of wiki before until now. I just read something, it seems a little to open to me I believe. You don't want everything to be altered by anyone I think.

I think it's better to generate html helpfiles with for instance helpndoc.
These helpfiles could be accessed locally, but maybe instead it's better to add it to the website www.altbinz.com. This is up to ScOtTy and Rdl to decide.

I will send you an small example which I've generated.

pieper actually for most wiki's you can control who edits the items or also if others want to edit something then it needs to get approved by someone higher up. Wiki's are becoming popular because of how easy it is do have multiple people contribute and easily edit something.

Well I would have to take a look into it. I believe ScOtTy and Rdl doesn't want this, I think they want to add it in this forum.

Hi guys

I've just registered today and am completely new to newsgroups generally, and to alt.binz particularly. There's a lot of talk about a 'help guide' here, but blowed if I can find it anywhere. Could someone please point me in the right direction.

Also, I've tried logging on to the main webpage with my forum user name and password to see if there's anything in there, but I keep getting refused. Is there a different registration procedure to gain access to the website?
