Pished and losing patience with Newsgroups
« on: October 14, 2007, 01:43:01 AM »
For the last two years I have been a Torrent junkie. Nothing else to get hold of; films, music and TV episodes.

Recently I read an article on Newsgroups and as a result I thought this must be the way forward. I signed up for Giganews and I have been testing out alt.bits and Grabit.

Oh how I wish things were as simple as Torrents. Before I start rabbiting on about the issues which I am facing, is there anybody with a decent link to a FAQ which will tell me almost everything about Newsgroups? When I first started on torrents, I used something like: http://www.dessent.net/btfaq/ and that basically gave me the lowdown.

For those who wish to read on:

But with Newsgroups so far, all I am finding is: incomplete file downloads ( the most irritating), new file types, different categories, confusing search results. etc, etc, .

All I am looking for here is a basic guide to Newsgrouops. If someone can provide something, I will be so grateful. I was really looking forward to joining the Newsgroup network (Christ, I have chosen to subscribe to Giganews and actually pay for something!!!!!!).

Welcome to the world of Usenet. Older than all of the P2P and torrents put together.

You ask and you shall receive:

http://www.slyck.com/ng.php

Oops hit the submit before finishing the post. :)

Anyway, I used to be like you and run through the News Groups and try to find file after file and then find out parts are missing. But no more. You have come to the right place with Alt.Binz

In Slyck's Guide you will find an area called NZB Files. Read over that one for sure. If you understand the concept after reading the guide, you will never have to worry about finding or losing any type of file you can ever imagine. I have been using NZB's for over a few years now and I will never go back to any kind of P2P or Torrent ever again. With Torrents and P2P files you have to make sure someone if seeding them and if not you may have to wait DAYS to get the files you want.

With NZB's and a good connection and Alt.Binz you can have the Educational   Movie in no time. At the present time it takes me about 2 hours to get a FULL DVD Public Domain Movie,

But as I said take a look at the guide and also check out www.newzbin.com, you will find anything and everything you could think of.

Good luck and welcome again to OUR World....

A good place to start would be the links in this stickied thread:

http://www.altbinz.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=787

Yes, Slyck & Binaries4all tutorials for the general stuff, Quick Start Guides and other threads here for Alt.binz questions.

As this forum really is for help with Alt.binz and not general Usenet matters, I'll close this thread now.

Enjoy :)
