Problem with Connecting to Servers
« on: August 08, 2007, 02:59:47 AM »
Well another newbie has joined the ranks.

I able unable to connect to my isp news server. I have gone into setup/servers and entered the details and clicked 'add as primary'.
I have double checked the address and have rebooted the system as well, but still get the message 'Could not connect (retry in X sec)'

I have looked through the forum and notice that it isn't an isolated problem, but the solutions I was hoping for were given on IRC and not in the posts :(

So therefore I humbly ask for your help.

thanks Rdl

I have the router set to allow port 119 and have also allowed 119 in Zone Alarm Pro. I have disabled Peer Guardian, but still no connection.  The server I'm trying to connect to is news.enta.net. Not sure how to check whether the ports are actually open or not. I'm stumped on this, but know it must be something small and stupid. :(

Using the following port checker, I got this result.

hxxp://www.canyouseeme.org/

*Error: I could not see your service on xx.xx.xx.114 on port (119)
Reason: Connection timed out

I have just found out that the enta news server is down  doh! ........http://noc.enta.net/
