Is there a way to test filters that doesn't require waiting for 10 minutes each time I add or change a filter?

Nope. But don't see a reason for testing. Setting up filters is easy once you understand how they work.

For me understanding how they work involves testing. :) I'm new to usenet so I'm also testing to learn what variations to expect in naming.

What exactly does the filter work on - is it the subject?

I discovered the RSS data is not saved when you close altbinz. So the filters can't be used to keep track of tv shows on an ongoing basis.
