better auto cleanup features/options
« on: January 27, 2007, 10:23:39 AM »
would be nice if after a successful unrar, the remaining paused sample/par files etc that are left in the queue, could automatically be deleted.
last nite, i unticked the option to pause any par files.. so that the queue would be empty...
but after unrar, it doesnt cleanup the par files that it didnt require from the download folder..

That was probably cause the par2 files were downloading after the par2 set was complete & checked and unrared

Actually, that option would come in quite handy, as I also keep having to do that. So it would be nice if it would be automatically deleted whenever par2 checks out all right.

Can I add my vote for a "Clear Unneeded PAR" option to remove paused PARS from the download queue ?

That is the only thing I find myself doing manually. All the other automation works great.

Nice app :D

Cheers,

I agree that some kind of cleanup function would be useful. Alternatively to having it as an option, i.e., clean ups would always be performed automatically, there could be a cleanup button (like the connect or pause button). If you press it, all completed tasks are removed.

Another question concerns what exactly should be cleaned up. I can think of:
    - removing rootnodes of completed downloads
    - removing entries in the par2 window of completed repairs/unrars
    - removing remaining content of download folder after successful unrar
    - removing empty folders after successful unrar

Maybe the choice of what to clean up could be adjusted in the options menu. Not everybody likes to do have the same tasks performed automatically.

To make the cleanup function/option perfect, it would also allow moving some or all files remaining in the download folder after a successful unrar. For instance, often there are NFO files or Jpegs associated with a download, but they are not included in the rar archives. Some would like to keep them, some don't.

Basically, you want the same functionality as AutoUnpack's purge settings.  I like the idea of a clean-up button, though.  :)

No, Hecks, not quite. My proposal is much more sophisticated. ;)

But seriously, AutoUnpack doesn't move other files such as NFOs. At most, it doesn't delete them. And if I saw correctly, it doesn't clean up any entries in its queue, either.

What I like about AutoUnpack, though, is the option to either move files to the recycle bin or to delete them directly.

It has a 'Move non-archive files included in the PAR2 set to the destination folder (mp3s, jpegs, etc)' option.  I can't remember if that catches nfos that aren't in archives, it's been a while since I used it. ;)

I do recall that it will clear processed entries when re-started, and you can keep a timestamped log of successfully unpacked archives on the Statistics tab.  That would be a nice feature for alt.binz, too, something simpler than the full log :).  ATM, I tend not to clear the PAR2 tab immediately just so I can keep a quick list of what I've downloaded recently.
