Primary to Backup Server switch
« on: March 18, 2013, 11:09:18 am »
Morning,
I know i've queried the drop in speed before, when running through the primary server, and files not found/out of retention thus then trying the backup, and was told it was normal to see a nominal drop when running like this.

I've finally managed to get my connection speed issues ironed out, and now am seeing 150000+ KB/s out of my 120meg connectiom, however, retention on my ISP supplied (and free) servers is only about 2 weeks, after that i switch into astraweb pre-paid account (pay by download plan)

The system is working as it should, and if a file is not available it checks the backup servers i have set, problem is i am now seeng a massive drop in speed from 15K to about 3500 KB/s (aprox)

As it stands currently, each file, and part thereof must be tried through the primary server, before switching to the back up, is it not possible to make Alt.Binz recognise when this is happening and to bypass the primary server all together ? doing the same if multiple tiers of servers are setup ?

Right now, if i see this happeneing, i go to settings and manually turn off the primary server and select the backup to us as 1st use

This will be fixed once a proper primary/backup system is in place.

ok thanks for the speedy reply and info :)

Once in place i will give feedback, because of my setup, i'm in and out of the backup servers all the time.

Accidentally set 2 primary servers the other day (have my paid for servers isolated as a second primary+backup chain for easy switching) that was interesting to watch it run from all 24 connections lol.... i was being traffic managed on the ISP server, so flicked the paid for server on as well, difference in speed on the progress bars was hilarious to watch :P

quick select option from the toolbar would be handy rather than running through the settings dialog
