Quick Server-Change
« on: June 10, 2009, 08:39:51 AM »
It would be nice to be able to change servers without having to go through the settings. Something simular to the pause for xx min would be nice. a dropdown-menue in the gui and the tray would make changing servers much easier...

Although not quite as easy as you ask, you can "switch" server by selecting all your threads and rightclicking and disabling them. then right click and add threads for the server you want.

I personally use 3 servers, normally 8-10 threads at a time. I have 0 threads start automatically and add in the threads for the servers i want to use. I then disconnect and connect, then add in other servers to switch.

what would be nice is to be able to select the threads you want to change, right click and change server (either after current download or instantly - probably the former).

no offense but what u suggest is quite the oposite of what i want, because it's a very slow and ineffiecent way to change servers. using 8 threads ur method needs more than 16 clicks to completly change. it might a good way to create server mix, but that was not exactly the goal of this request.

changing servers via settings i need 6 clicks, what i want would be something like 2-4 clicks without having to go through an extra menue. what i imagie would be a dropdown-menu where u can choose one of ur servers to be activated followed by a disconcet/reconect. If the reconecting is done automaticaly u could change servers with 2 clicks otherwise it would be 4 clicks.

Takes a few less than that - you can select a group of server threads and dis/enable them all at once. Still takes four clicks per enable/disable but it's a start.

no actualy it's even more than 16 clicks for changing 8 connections:

1 for selecting the first connection
1 for selection the last connection
2 for rightclick-menue disable

2 clicks for enabling each new connection x 8 connection=16 (you can only add on connection at a time)

so would end up with 20 clicks instead of the 7 u need going through settings:

1 Settings
2 Selecting Server-Submenu
3 Disabling Server 1
4 Enabling Server 2
5 Clicking OK
6 Disabling Connection
7 Enabling Connection

what i want would be 2-5 clicks

1 clicking dropdown next to Connection button
(2 Deselect old server)
2/3 Select new server
Autoreconnect
(4 Disconnect)
(5 Connect)

I was presuming that you kept eight of each in the server list down the bottom there, and just enabled/disabled the one you wanted to use. Which would take 8 clicks (or less if you're decent with your home/end keys), and less time than going through the setup menu and cycling Connect.

But yes, a simpler method to switch could be useful.

Also, if the right-click menu options were able to be directly selected from the keyboard (E -> enable; D -> disable; A -> add then 1 to 9 -> select server; it would be great (regardless of whether your request happens).

well if u keep 8 connections of each server there they are by default active after a new start of alt.binz and you would need to disable one of them by hand each time.

Well I only restart Alt.Binz every few months so it isn't a big problem.

i'm currently using astraweb and i have 4 servers configured. eu/us with/without ssl. i have a hunch that my isp is throttling my connection after a period of time, so when i switch to a different server/port the issue is resolved. a drop down menu (maybe near the connect button) like the one implement for the "pause for" would be very nice add. i know i could do it from the configuration window.
this menu will disconnect the current connection and reconnect to the new one while resume dl if it was dl before. people who don't use more than one of course could hide the drop down menu button.

the menu will be populated with the configured servers as they are defined in the config window.

I've merged your topic with an older request of mine since they are practicaly identical.
